What is Sports Massage?

Soft tissue therapy and sports massage lead to a healthier body and mind

Sports massage

At Sportland Therapies, Sports Massage techniques are used as the most effective therapy for releasing muscle tension and restoring balance to the musculo-skeletal system. Sports and remedial massage is a deep tissue massage technique and has many potential benefits. The primary aim of a sports massage is to restore the full potential of your muscular system and other soft tissues, to help relieve problems and to prevent injury. This can simply mean easing the tension that has built up in your shoulders over long hours in the office or restoring maximum performance to an overtrained muscle-group of an athlete.

My treatments aim to work on improving the quality of the soft tissues within the body, restoring full functionality to muscles and other soft tissues.  I will help to drain away fatigue, relieve swelling, reduce muscle tension, promote flexibility, prevent injuries and, in the case of sports people, prepare for peak performance. I work to redress imbalances built up through training and everyday activities helping prevent those niggling injuries that so often get in the way of performance and achievement, whether a person is an athlete, a once a week jogger or just physically active, allowing my patients greater freedom of movement and consequently, better quality of life.

You do not need to be a sports performer to benefit from a sports massage. Despite its name Sports Massage is for both sports persons and non-sports persons alike. The benefits can also help relieve the many day to day problems, repetitive strain injury, sprains, tension, fatigue, that everyone experiences. I work with a great range of clients in assisting with preventive treatment and injury recovery so sports massage has something to offer for everyone.
